Let’s Get Fit and Festive!

December is here and so are the holidays! Everyone is  cheerful and gearing up for  a long deserved break. With more free time you can relax but you can also fit in more exercise. Staying active over the holidays is a great way to “keep going”.

Here is how you can keep your body fit and healthy while still having a great time on holiday:

Sunrise sessions

We are so fortunate to have longer days over our December holidays. The sun rises early and this is the best time to get a training session in before the rest of the world wakes up. Getting up and GO’ing is a great way to kick start your metabolism for your day ahead. Enjoy getting out into the sunshine and keeping active!

Phone a friend

Having a friend who is as motivated to get up and GO as you are is a huge bonus when you could be tempted to sleep in. Why not do two things at once and commit to an early walk, run or a GO Spin class with a friend you’ve been wanting to catch up with. By being accountable to someone you are less likely to opt out. So get dialling, and stay active!

GO Shop!

Let’s face it, we all have a lot of Holiday shopping to do. So instead of making it a chore, use the shopping time to get active. You will be surprised at how much energy you burn in a good day’s worth of shopping.

New traditions

December is often about spending time with family. Each family has their own family traditions but why introduce some activity based ones? You can start a touch rugby game after lunch, or make your family go on walks before dinners while on holiday. Keep you and your family healthy and active this December.

Equipment to GO

If you are going away this festive season it is very hard to take weights and equipment with you. Why not buy a resistance band for some light resistance training? They are light-weight, inexpensive and can literally fold up into your bag. They can be used for stability training and to help keep your muscles strong over the holiday period. All sports stores should stock them, so go have a look to see which one suits you best.

New Goals

Although most of us want to relax over the holiday period it is also nice to have a race or goal in the new year to work towards.  If there is an event you want to train for, then the December holidays are the perfect time to put in the hard work. It’s a great way to start 2016 off on a good note.

Use the December holidays to rest and relax from your busy year but get moving in between those rests. This will help with increasing your energy levels, boosting your metabolism and ensuring that you feel great with the hot summer weather. Make it fun and before you know it, you will have the whole family joining in!
