Lucky for us, exercising doesn’t have to be an expensive task. It’s as easy as putting on your shoes and going for a walk outside. If walking isn’t your preferred form of exercise then there are other options available. These tips can also be used if you travel a lot or have limited time available.

Home videos

This is an old-school train of thought, not many of us have those Jane Fonda video sets lying around. These days we can get a fitness video at a click of a button. Online fitness videos are becoming very popular.  You can find anything from High intensity Interval training (HIIT) sessions, exercise tutorials, boxing or step classes. Once you start researching your preference, the list is endless. All you need is your computer screen, phone or tablet and data. What’s great about this is that you can then get a workout at any time of the day, so time is not a problem. You can also go at your own pace so there is no pressure if you need to rest.

Get outdoors

There is nothing better than the smell of the crisp cool air in the mornings. If you are an early riser, this is the best time to put on those trainers and get outdoors. Walking, running, cycling, even swimming are easy to do and you need very little in terms of cost. No fees involved, only the cost of the equipment you need for the sport you choose.

Go for a hike

Admittedly, this is similar to the point above of getting outdoors, but hiking is one of the activities that needs to be explored more. We have so many trails and areas that can be discovered, but due to our busy lifestyle, hiking is something that one can do to get away from it all. You can be any age, and any level of fitness. Hiking is great way for building leg strength and cardiovascular fitness. It is also a great stress reliever as you get to be a part of nature while still working on your health. There are hiking trails on all national parks and it too needs no fees or heavy equipment, just a sturdy pair of walking shoes.

Body Weight

So you are at home and you are wanting to do a workout but you don’t have any equipment. You certainly don’t have to spend a fortune kitting out a home gym. There are numerous exercises that you can do that uses your own body weight as the weight. Training with your body weight can be as effective as if you trained with free weights, so there is no excuse for not doing some resistance training when you have a few minutes to spare. There are numerous exercises you can do, just look online for a few ideas and get moving, it’s free!

As prices go up, it’s reassuring to know that you don’t have to spend a fortune to stay healthy. GO Health Club offers great prices for gym memberships and you get a vast array of classes and equipment at your fingertips. Kids aged 12 to 17 also get to gym for free, so this is a great saving for the family. It’s important to make time for yourself. Time is money, so spend that time on yourself, not on expensive exercises fads.
